Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum in Samarkand
The Gur-i-Amir is a magnificent mausoleum of Emperor Timur (1336-1405), also known as Tamerlane, and is one of the most beautiful sights on the Silk Road. With its golden domes and spectacular mosaics, it occupies an important place in the history of Persian-Mongolian architecture as the precursor for later Mughal tombs.
