Shah-i-Zinda in Samarkand
The Shah-i-Zinda complex boasts many mausoleums that are a spectacular combination of Persian, Central Asian and East Asian influences. It was formed over eight (11th till 19th) centuries and comprises three groups of structures: lower, middle and upper connected by four-arched domed passages locally called chartak. The Shah-i-Zinda is the best place to see the movement of artistic and architectural influences along the Silk Road.
